OU-Tulsa Community Medicine Receives Part of a $16M Grant

University of Oklahoma - Tulsa

The University of Oklahoma will receive a federal grant of $16M over four years, which will go to efforts on OU-Tulsa’s campus.

  • Tribal Tribute: The funding is designated to recruit, retain, and graduate medical students from Tribal, rural and medically underserved communities in Oklahoma. The project also supports financial need through scholarships for students from Tribal, rural, and medically underserved communities to attend medical school at OU.

  • How it Works: One of the unique aspects of the grant is that it focuses on teaching medical students the importance of primary care and its impact on the health of all Oklahomans, particularly those in rural locations. Program leaders hope the funding will eventually lead to overall growth in Oklahoma’s primary care workforce.

Tulsa Daily

Tulsa Girls Home is getting a new house for the holidays with a move that will make room for more teens.

  • Room to Grow: Tulsa Girls Home is a 2.5 year old nonprofit designed to help teen girls in the foster care system who are in need of care, hope and shelter. They’ve out grown their Sapulpa home and found a larger house in Jenks that is currently being remodeled by generous business donors.

  • Focused But Not Finished: The home has a large building in the back that will be demolished to make way for townhome housing for the older girls transitioning out of the system and into adulthood. The Tulsa Girls’ Home remodel has been fully funded but the organization is still working to raise the remaining $300,000 to pay off the mortgage.
