A $4.2-Million New Park is Under Construction in Bixby

Bixby Historical Society

A new space that will connect 2 existing parks will feature a brand new playground, restrooms and stages with state-of-the-art sound systems.

  • Bridging the Gap: The Washington Irving River Park will connect the Washington Irving Memorial Park with the Harmony Bridge, making an even bigger space along the Arkansas River. A new boat ramp will go in allowing first responders to easily access the river in emergencies.

  • Primed for Pumped Up Population: Bixby City Leaders hope the new park will allow for larger events to be showcased in town. Vice Mayor Robert Founds wants to offer more incentives for Bixby families to stay put. "When we keep all the new residents who want to live in Bixby, when we keep them here with activities and fun that means we also keep them around for our businesses, and that helps create the infrastructure that we need, all around," Founds said.

Plan your visit to the new Bixby park that will open sometime in November.

Room For Cream Please! Local Collective Company is Making Sure Local Coffee Companies Have Room on Wal-Mart Shelves Too

Local Collective

Local Collective is bringing local to the masses and empowering local coffee roasters by giving them a way to be stocked on Walmart’s shelves in dedicated local sections.

  • Aroma Advocates: It’s definitely a two cup kind of day when you are a business owner and you want to get your products onto Walmart’s shelves. There’s a jolly java company that is helping local coffee businesses do just that. Simply put, Local Collective will help get coffee roasters’ products on Wal-Mart store shelves in the same neck of the woods as their coffee houses.

  • But First, Coffee: Local Collective has done the leg work of convincing Walmart of the importance of featuring a locally roasted section of coffee beans and other products on the coffee aisle. Topeca Coffee in Tulsa is pumped about the perk. “My Mother-in-law’s family has been growing coffee since about 1850. It is such an honor to now be able to work with Walmart,” said Topeca Co-Owner Chip Gaberino. If you live in the Tulsa area keep your eye out next time you pick up groceries, and you’ll see a variety of Topeca’s brews in the coffee aisle.

Highway 412 That Extends Across Oklahoma and Arkansas is Up For a Major Upgrade

Damon's Droneography

Highway 412 is one of Tulsa’s busiest roadways. A new study and plan could make it an official interstate leading to more funding for improvements.

  • On the Road Again: Both the Oklahoma and Arkansas Departments of Transportation are joining in on a study of Highway 412 to process possible plans for making it an interstate. The second public meeting was on the US 412 roadway between I-35, in Oklahoma, that extends into Arkansas over to I-49.

  • No Pain, No Gain: In order to be an interstate there's no ability to make a left turn or to go straight across. As part of the 8 year construction work grant program, drivers will have to deal with plenty of those orange cones but, Highway 412 could get pavement upgrades, grade crossings, side streets, bridges and access roads.

Read more about the possible upgrades here.
