North Tulsa to Receive $8.4M Housing Development

Black Wall Street Square

We suspect Dr. Martin Luther King would be very proud on this MLK Day as the City of Tulsa announces plans for a new 25 unit housing community in the Greenwood District.

  • Welcome Home: Ground is broken on Black Wall Street Square which will be located on the corner of MLK Jr. Blvd and East Reading Street in North Tulsa. The energy-efficient single family homes are inspired by a late designers commitment to property development in underserved areas of Tulsa.

  • Hold the Housing Shortage: The 1.76-acre mixed-income townhome project is a modern take on the traditional brownstone architecture of the historic Greenwood District. Developers expect construction to take 12-15 months which puts the grand opening around next spring.

It took about a dozen organizations to partner on this project. See the list HERE.

Gilcrease Museum Announces Plans to Continue Community Art Program in 2024

Gilcrease Museum

The snow covering Tulsa right now is a work of art to see but Gilcrease Museum is showing off it’s own amazing art.

  • Art Walk: Gilcrease in Your Neighborhood just wrapped up its first year where more than 4,000 art junkies took part in 92 incredible programs outside museum doors. The Museum is closed for its $139M construction project so they’ve strategically placed replicated art pieces throughout the community. The public art experience was such a hit, it’s coming back in 2024.

  • Interactive Enlightenment: Along with the pop-up art installations will be hands on community art events. Each location for live art has a QR code on display and that helped organizers track viewers. In 2023 it had around 350,000 views.

Tulsa Mayor Talks About Plans for 8th and Final Year in Office

Mayor G.T. Bynum says his dream job is about to come to an end but there’s plenty of work yet to do.

  • Eight is Great: In an interview by News on 6, Mayor Bynum said he’s proud of the last 7 years, but thinks this 8th year is special. Finishing the “lake in the Arkansas River that people have been talking about here since 1964. I cannot wait for Tulsans to see this. It's going to change the way people use the river for recreation.” Bynum said.

  • Passing the Torch: Bynum is not endorsing any of the current Mayoral Candidates but does have some advice - put the City first. “It comes before your popularity. It comes before your ambitions for what you're going to do next…because the citizens of Tulsa have entrusted you with the greatest honor that they have in their power to give anybody, which is to be the mayor of Tulsa.
