All You Need to Know About Monday’s Dr. MLK Jr. Day Parade in Tulsa

MLK Tulsa Parade

The kids are out of school, you might be off work, and a great man will be honored. Here’s how you can take part in Monday’s MLK Parade.

  • Bundle Up for King: It is going to be a cold one. The weatherman is saying something about possible snow and the high temp being 9 degrees but that won’t stop a great celebration called Dr. King’s Dream: A Vision for the Future. That’s the 45th annual parade theme that kicks off at 11am in downtown Tulsa.

  • New Twist on Old Tradition: Each year, over 100 entries participate in the parade with floats, music and marchers. Thousands are expected to attend the parade that starts at the corner of N. Detroit Ave. and John Hope Franklin Blvd. Don’t miss the first ever Original Black Wall Street Merchant Marketplace designed to bring more people to Greenwood Avenue and feature mostly black owned Tulsa businesses.

New Neighborhood Pub Opens in Midtown As Part of McNellies Group Growth

Tulsa Daily

When you can belly up to the bar in a historic neighborhood building and order up a Guinness with some fish and chips, you’ve got the makings of a great pub.

  • Where Everybody Knows Your Name: It’s called Bishop Quigley’s and it looks a little like a scene from ‘Cheers.’ We walked over to the new neighborhood pub and were met with smiling faces as we ordered a some wine with the tasty chicken Pub Curry.

  • Walkable Wonder: Located in the heart of the Maple Ridge Neighborhood, Bishop Quigley’s is toasting a good amount of foot traffic in its first couple of weeks. Just next door is another McNellie’s Group hot spot with an upscale vintage diner feel perfect for family brunch. Maple Ridge Grocer offers meals with the opportunity to stock your pantry.

12 Tulsa Public Schools Removed From the Low Performing Federal Watch List

Tulsa Daily

Teaching children well and meeting all requirements is a huge investment for teachers and school leaders, and this is week we are celebrating a win.

  • Passing the Test: Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson announced that a dozen low performing schools are no longer on the federal watch list. Another 4 schools had already made enough strides to be checked off a list for Most Rigorous Intervention last month for a total of 16 schools making improvements.

  • More Homework To Do: "So much work is still to be done," Johnson said. "So I just want to make sure that it's known that we've had a small celebration and we are back on task with ensuring that we move more schools off of those lists."
