Tulsa Public Schools Could be Forced to Close Some Schools

Tulsa Daily

TPS has been giving the State Superintendents office mandatory monthly updates and the latest resulted in a big call for action.

  • Looking for Closure: The State Board of Education called for Tulsa Public Schools to identify low-performing school sites to close. They believe consolidating TPS schools could lead to better test scores which is high on the list of issues State Superintendent Ryan Walters wants to address.

  • Making the Grade: Walters wants test scores to improve by 5%, and said that failure for TPS is not an option. This is the latest step to try for TPS accreditation. Some TPS board members say strides have been made and believe closing schools is a drastic measure. Three schools are off the failing list and five more will be off by the end of the year.
