New Generation of Long Time Soul Food Restaurant Moves Location and Celebrates 50

Wanda J’s

The restaurant known for the best fried chicken in town is serving up satisfaction in a new location in its 50th year. Wanda J’s has moved.

  • That’s Peachy: The peach cobbler is just one of the highly requested items at Wanda J’s. The restaurant opened in 1974 on the corner of Apache and Peoria. In 2016, the kids and grandkids of Wanda Jefferson Armstrong opened Wanda J's Next Generation Restaurant in the historic Greenwood District. With needs for bigger space, they are now open on North 74th near the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.

  • What’s Cookin’: Wanda admits the menu has changed since 1974 when she served scrambled pig brains with eggs, pig ears and pig tails, rice and neck bones. Now you can get classic pancakes, omelets, hash browns and pork chops for breakfast. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cornbread are hot and ready for lunch and dinner.

Tulsa’s Reading Partners Looking for Volunteers

Reading Partners

It’s an organization aimed at making children masters at reading. Reading Partners Tulsa wants you!

  • Turn the Page: Reading Partners became part of the Tulsa educational landscape in 2013. It pairs children with community volunteers to help them become pros at basic reading skills. The one-on-one tutoring model empowers students to succeed in reading and in life.

  • The Next Chapter: Today, only one in four Oklahoma fourth graders is reading at a proficient level and 36% lack even basic literacy skills. That’s why Reading Partners is on the lookout for more volunteers. By partnering with parents, teachers, public schools, and community leaders in Tulsa, Reading Partners is poised to help kids fall in love with reading.
