Tulsans Find Humor in Stalled I-44/75 Interchange

Steve Liggett

As the construction of the I-44 and Highway 75 interchange in Tulsa stalls, drivers are embracing the humor of the situation. With several ramp beams in place but no roads atop them, the incomplete project has been christened "Traffic Henge" by Tulsans.

  • Traffic Henge Is Born: The resemblance of the unfinished interchange to Stonehenge has sparked local amusement and inspired creative interpretations. Tulsa artist Steve Liggett's photo and comment about "Traffic Henge" spread quickly online, bringing LOLs to local travelers.

  • Project Details: Despite appearances, ODOT reports the project is ahead of schedule, with $95 million in grant money enabling three of the five phases to begin next year. Dubbed a "mega project," construction will likely start in the summer or fall of 2024, with the plan to add flyover ramps, widen bridges, and more.

The Fastest Arms in Baseball Come From Tulsa

Visit Tulsa

Ever witnessed a baseball pitch at an average of 94.8 mph? The Tulsa Drillers, the Double-A affiliate of the Dodgers (for those Tulsans that didn’t already know), are redefining the pitching game, earning titles, and turning heads with record stats.

  • Lowest Earned-Run Average: Not only do the Drillers dominate the mound, but they've also achieved the lowest earned-run average in their league. Their precise control and intimidating speed are a nightmare for hitters, establishing them as a force to be reckoned with in professional baseball.

  • Highest Strikeout Rate: The Drillers aren't just throwing hard; they're striking out batters at a league-leading rate. Once dubbed by Baseball America as the hardest-throwing team in the majors or minors, their extraordinary talent has continued to impress even after the promotions of some of their best arms.
