Rhythm is a Dancer. Our Live Music Scene is a Big Hit!
Where else can you find live music every single night of the week? Jenks has a jumping joint where the drinks are cold and the music strikes a chord.
Harmonious Headliners: Maggie’s Music Box has both an indoor stage and an outdoor stage for taking in the tunes. The renovated historic venue sits in the heart of downtown Jenks and owners Amy and Kevin Smith and their buddy Rick Huskey are excited to draw performers and crowds that are off the charts. Grady Nichols, The Backbone Blues Band, Travis Kid, The Wayne Garner Band and The Steven White Group are just a few recent and upcoming headliners.
Grooves Gaining Growth: Maggie’s Music Box opened in 2020 and there was such a rocking response to the songwriter scene that the owners quickly purchased the available site to the east. They call it Maggie’s Limey Bison Tequila and Mezcal Cantina and the sips are spectacular. We haven’t heard anyone complaining about the good vibes tacos offered up for dinner and brunch either. Oh, and sports fans have something to sing about too. Dallas Cowboys tickets anyone? Maggies has a giveaway for those on Friday.

Eleven Days of Awesome is About to Awe Tulsans as the Tulsa State Fair Roller Coasts Into Town
You fried what? Sometimes you just need some deep fried Oreos, a cheeseburger on a stick and a good rush on a roller coaster.
Exciting Events and Enticing Eats: Cooking classes for kids, stunt dogs and dock diving shows, Disney On Ice, and dairy farmer’s mobile classrooms are just a few of the events listed on the Tulsa State Fair 11 day event calendar. Not to mention the fabulous food that is sure to give you fond memories of fried deliciousness. Who says you can’t fry a Twinkie? New this year, Cricket, Scorpion and Meal Worm Pizza on a stick. Nope, we aren’t kidding. Good ole funnel cake, cotton candy and corn dogs are on the menu for those in search of traditional treats.
Limited Lines and Daring Deals: Life may be like a roller coaster but the upside to this year’s Tulsa State Fair is the Mega Ride pass for the not so faint of heart. It’ll cost you $80 bones but that gets you gate admission and unlimited rides for every day of the fair. Family passes are available too. A family of 4 gets in for $35.

Paying it Forward. One Chef’s Culinary Cause for Cultivating Creativity
Tulsa Chef Sarah Leavell found her love for cooking in culinary school and now she’s helping other aspiring chefs do the same.
A Savory Start: Oklahoma ProStart is a school-to-career program developed by the National Restaurant Association. It’s a program that Chef Sarah Leavell strongly believes in. She started cooking at the age of 18 after losing her father unexpectedly. The oldest of 9 children, she knew leadership was in her future. Now she creates beautiful meals for crowds of 5,500+ at Tulsa’s BOK and COX Convention Centers. She’s signed on to take her talents back to the culinary classroom as a way to give back in honor of all those who helped her along her tasty trek.
Prepared for Prestige: Culinary certification with Oklahoma ProStart opens many doors for students with dreams of careers in the kitchen. Select high school teams get the chance to compete at the ProStart Student National Invitational in Washington D.C. and chef Leavell hopes to use her love for a la cart food art to lead them there.

They Say it Takes a Village and the Men of Monroe Are Stepping Up to the Mentoring Mound
Sometimes a firm handshake, a pat on the back, a look in the eye and an encouraging word is all a young man needs to keep on moving.
Putting the MEN in Mentor: Tulsa’s Monroe Demonstration Academy has a new program that is proving to be promising. The Men of Monroe was formed to put positive roll models in the path of the most precious of students, the young men in need of community. So far 25 men have signed up to line up in the halls and cafeteria at Monroe Demonstration Academy and offer a kind word, piece of advice or simply a smile to let them know they are in good company.
Familiar Friends: Program leaders say that regular visits from the same volunteer men will help drive home the support that the young men of Monroe Demonstration Academy need. It’s a brotherhood of belief in one another that could blossom for high school and beyond.
