Tulsa Public Schools Adjusts 5-Year Plan to Fit State Mandates
The Oklahoma State Department of Education says Tulsa Public Schools needs improvement and the district is making great strides.
Monday Meeting: The TPS School Board meeting brought changes to ‘Pathways to Opportunity,’ the district’s 5-year strategic plan. The biggest change is instead of using MAP test scores in reading, they’re going to use Oklahoma School Testing Program or OSTP scores.
Pathways to Progress: The 5-year plan consists of 3 goals and 5 guardrails. In addition to the refocus on test scores, 3 guardrails were removed in an effort to simplify the plan. They are about social and emotional learning strategies, secondary curriculum, and practical life skills that are already ingrained practices.

Tulsa Mayor Recaps 2023 in His Final Year
Mayor G.T. Bynum Is looking back on successes from 2023 with the City’s annual report while 3 Mayoral candidates hope to carry the torch.
A Safe Place to Call Home: One of the biggest wins was getting voter approval on the third round of Improve Our Tulsa, an $814M package that won’t raise taxes but funds improvements to City facilities, equipment, and streets. $104M of it is going toward filling a critical housing need. The City will get 3 new firetrucks, a hazmat air truck, and more police officers will be hired in 2024.
A Tough Job: The 3 mayoral candidates hoping to continue the success trend are current Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith, Oklahoma State Representative Monroe Nichols, and City Councilor Jayme Fowler. Tulsans will choose their next Mayor in August.
