Another Downtown Tulsa Restaurant is Opening, This Time With a Southern Flare

Isla’s Southern Kitchen

Isla’s Southern Kitchen is having a grand opening January 9th and the menu is full of southern comforts.

  • Grandma’s House: That’s the vibe at Isla’s Southern Kitchen where you can expect delicious homemade meals and desserts that cured all ailments. Some menu favorites are the chicken fried steak, blackened redfish, fried catfish, biscuits and gravy, and the shrimp and grits.

  • American Pie: Isla’s will have some of ‘the best pies in the state’ at the restaurant located near ONEOK Field. The January 9th grand opening will feature southern small bites, wine and the house beer called Meemaw’s Farmhouse Ale. As with all Justin Thompson Group grand openings, there will be a charity benefit.

Tulsa Non-Profit ‘BeHeard Movement’ Showcases Services During Giving Month

BeHeard Movement

December is Giving Month but BeHeard Movement offers its dignifying services year round.

  • Homeless But Hopeful: BeHeard Movement’s Evan Dougoud, spends donation money to provide a shower trailer that allows homeless people to have hot showers with heated walls, heated floors and an air conditioner for the summer months. Another trailer offers haircuts, laundry and extra showers at zero cost to those who need them.

  • Fresh Start: BeHeard also helps the homeless suit up and find jobs. They’ve kicked off their 2024 fundraising campaign with a goal to get 1,000 people to sign up to sponsor a shower for $10 per month.
