Life is Great in the 918! City of Tulsa Preps for a Spectacular September 18th

There’s no hate for the 918 but only love as City leaders gear up to celebrate.

  • Testimonial Tour of T-Town: Mayor G.T. Bynum plans to tell Tulsa’s story on September 18th by touring and talking about his favorite City. From 9:18am to 9:18pm he will stop at Tulsa’s treasured hot spots and document the trek on social media.

  • Citizen Celebrations : Tulsans are encouraged to watch and comment on Mayor Bynum’s tour on Facebook, but a strategic scavenger hunt will test participants knowledge of Tulsa’s history as well. Winners will receive special recognition, a basket of Tulsa treasures and an official 918 day t-shirt.

Trot on Over to Turkey Mountain to Treat Yourself to Terrific Trails

Tulsa River Parks Authority has a wild night planned for raising money on the mountain.

  • Wild Winning Wilderness : Who doesn’t love a fall fundraiser under the stars? That’s what is planned for ‘Wild Turkey’ a casual evening meant for moving under the moonlight. The event set for September 28th offers BBQ, bonfires and bluegrass music.

  • Love of the Land: Money raised at ‘Wild Turkey’ will go toward continued trail improvements lined out under the Turkey Mountain Master Plan and future hopes are to clear parts of and enhance about 100 acres of un-used land. Organizers estimate about 28,000 visitors explored Turkey Mountain each month this spring and summer.

Who Runs the World? Girls! National Police Woman Day Great for Green Country Gals

Owasso, Jenks and Sand Springs Police

Around 10% of law enforcement nationwide are women and some of the fiercest female crime fighters can be found right here in Oklahoma.

  • Promoting Polished Policewomen: Social media pages were full of positive posts about female police work Tuesday. Owasso, Jenks and Sand Springs Police Departments listed their ladies loud and clear among many other cities doing the same.

  • History of Her: National Police Woman Day might be a new celebration to us, but the first police woman to be hired was Marie Owens back in 1891! She was hired by Chicago PD.

It’s Time for Boots and Chaps and Cowboy Hats at Tulsa’s BOK Center as PBR Bucks Into Town

This ain’t no bull! 30 of the best bull riders in the world will hold tight in Tulsa this January.

  • Unleash the Beast: It’s the 20th consecutive season that Tulsa has hosted PBR presented by Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The 2 night bucking battle begins January 19th and the championship round takes place January 20th.

  • 8 Second Spectacular Seats : Some ticket holders will see the flare of the nostrils up close and personal with elite seating available. Tickets to see the rough rides and reactions go on sale Friday the 15th.

Welcome week is well underway and City of Tulsa leaders want immigrants to know they are treasures to T-town.

  • Diving Into Diversity: Census data doesn’t doubt that Tulsa is diversified. When it comes to cities our size, we are tied with Indianapolis as one of the fastest diversifying big cities in the country. That’s why an entire week is dedicated to welcoming immigrants, refugees and long term residents who want to connect in community.

  • Get Empowered at the Events : A festival, FC Tulsa game, seminars on higher education as a refugee and a citizenship ceremony are just a handful of events on the welcome roster. Mayor G.T. Bynum says he wants tried and true Tulsans to help newcomers know they can achieve their dreams in the 918.
